Glamour BS4 Bike Drop Chain Sound Problem Solution

Welcome to Rajesh Technical Blog. Today I will tell you about the Glamour BS4 bike drop chain sound problem and its complete solution step by step. Many riders face this common issue where the bike chain starts making a strange knocking or rattling sound. Sometimes the chain even drops out from the sprocket while riding, which can be risky. But don’t worry, here we will fix it easily with simple tools and methods.

🔍 What is Drop Chain Sound?

When your Glamour BS4 bike chain becomes loose or dry, it starts slipping or hitting the chain cover and sprocket. This creates a “tick-tick” or “thud-thud” sound especially when you accelerate or slow down. If ignored, it can damage both the chain and sprocket, and even affect gear shifting smoothness.

⚙️ Common Causes of Chain Sound

  • Chain is too loose or too tight.
  • Dry or rusty chain due to lack of lubrication.
  • Worn-out sprocket teeth (front or rear).
  • Rear wheel not properly aligned.
  • Chain links are stiff or jammed with dirt.
  • Chain adjuster nuts are not tightened properly.
  • Old chain set — needs replacement after 15,000 to 20,000 km.

🧰 Tools You Need

  • 10mm and 12mm spanners
  • Socket wrench set
  • Chain cleaner or kerosene
  • Brush and dry cloth
  • Good quality chain lubricant spray
  • Bike centre stand or paddock stand
  • Gloves and a measuring scale

🔧 Step-by-Step Solution

  1. 1. Put bike on centre stand: Make sure your Glamour BS4 is on level ground. Keep the engine off and the gear in neutral.
  2. 2. Clean the chain: Spray chain cleaner or kerosene on the chain. Use a brush to remove old grease, dust, and mud. Rotate the rear wheel slowly so that every part of the chain gets cleaned. Wipe it dry using a clean cloth.
  3. 3. Inspect chain and sprocket: Check if the sprocket teeth are sharp, hooked or broken. If yes, replace the chain set immediately. Also check if chain rollers are cracked or missing.
  4. 4. Lubricate the chain: Once the chain is dry, apply lubricant on the inside of the chain while rotating the wheel. Make sure every link gets covered. Wait 10 minutes before riding so the oil settles properly.
  5. 5. Check chain slack (tension): Press the chain in the middle between both sprockets. It should move up and down around 25–30 mm. If it’s more, chain is loose; if less, it’s tight. Correct tension ensures smooth running and reduces sound.
  6. 6. Adjust chain tension: Loosen the rear axle nut slightly. Turn both side adjuster bolts equally until you get the perfect slack. Always keep both adjuster marks on the same line for correct wheel alignment.
  7. 7. Tighten axle nut: After the adjustment, tighten the rear axle nut firmly. Ensure both sides are balanced — uneven adjustment may again create sound.
  8. 8. Check chain alignment: Look from the rear side of the bike; the chain should be straight from front to back. Misalignment causes rubbing and continuous noise.
  9. 9. Test ride: Ride slowly in 1st and 2nd gear. Listen carefully. If the sound is gone, the problem is fixed. If not, repeat inspection and check if sprockets need replacement.

⚠️ Important Maintenance Tips

  • Clean and lube your chain every 800–1000 km or after rain rides.
  • Never over-tighten the chain — it can damage bearings.
  • Replace chain and sprockets together for long life.
  • Keep your chain guard and slider in good condition to avoid vibration.
  • Always use genuine chain lube spray, not used engine oil.
  • If sound still comes, check swingarm bush and chain roller (if fitted).

💡 Expert Advice

Most Glamour BS4 bikes make a chain noise after 15,000 km because of chain stretch. If the sound returns even after cleaning and adjusting, it means the chain set has reached its end life. Changing the full set (front sprocket, rear sprocket, and chain) will make the bike smooth again like new.

✅ Final Result

After following these steps, your Glamour BS4 bike will run smoothly without any drop or rattling sound. Regular maintenance will not only reduce noise but also improve mileage and gear shifting. Keeping your chain clean and well-lubricated is the secret to a long engine life and a peaceful ride.

🚩 Conclusion

If you ride regularly, make chain care a part of your monthly check-up. A noisy chain is not just irritating — it’s a warning sign that something needs attention. Take 15 minutes every few weeks to clean, adjust and lubricate your chain, and your Glamour BS4 will always sound and feel perfect.2025/11/royal-enfield-himalayan-engine-swap
